An award winning creative and published architectural photographer, Ed Massery has spent close to twenty years traveling the U.S. photographing the majestic and subtle places where people live, work and play. A true appreciation of art, architecture, and nature are at the core of Massery’s passion for his craft. Intense, curious, adventurous and creative, he approaches each project with a fresh sensitivity to the physical, elemental and cultural influences that are intrinsic to each and every structure.
Best known for his mastery of natural light, Massery also embraces logistical challenges that can limit others in his field. He studied renaissance art and architecture but credits his engineering background as the foundation for his technique. His work represents a calculated partnership between vision and practicality, as he allows each photograph the opportunity reflect and capture the aesthetic and environmental objectives without compromising a sense of place, depth and visual impact. While his portfolio demonstrates a scope of experiences which have shaped him both as a documenter of fine architecture and a fine artist, his library of work offers its own study of architecture as a functional art form, a skillful expression of its dramatic contribution to the human experience.
Soley commissioned photographer for three books, including How to work with an Architect, published by Gibbs Smith, on architectural subjects, Massery’s work has been the subject of gallery exhibits including the Heinz Architectural Center at the Carnegie Museum. He has been published in numerous prominent architectural and design magazines, including Architectural Record, Architecture, Surface, and Azure.
